«ex-sadist, you pose an interesting question. I've actually given this subject quite a bit of thought. I see watching bondage as a healthy way of exploring sexual fantasies in a safe environment. I do not feel pornographic material is usually made with the intent of shaping it's audience's worldview, but it can be an interesting thought experiment to examine why we like the things that we like.

I saw a study done recently that looked the the kinks of people who consider themselves liberal and conservative. Liberals were more often into BDSM, conservatives: cuckhold fantasies. What I find most telling about this is the kinks these groups have an affinity for are in opposition to their expressed values. For liberals that's often feminism and bodily autonomy, and for conservatives: the sanctity of marriage.

There are a number of interesting ways we could look at these results. Are we naturally inclined to feel arousal at the things we find morally repugnant? Are we conditioned to see sex as naughty, so we see things we personally disagree on turn us on?

For myself, I have a different theory - and this video is oddly appropriate in that regard. I think I am attracted to strong women, but TV and movies have presented a key indicator of female strength as turning down sex. You know a female character is to be taken seriously if she turns down a pick-up line from the hero or the villain. The logical extension of that is a woman furiously fighting off a would-be assaulter.
